Eli's comin' - hide your heart, girls! Eli was on the euthanasia list at a small town shelter in North Texas, and thankfully, one of our adopters stepped up to foster, allowing us to pull him to safety with less than an hour to spare. Eli has been making the most of his new-found freedom ever since. The shelter estimated his age at 18 months, but his shiny white teeth (no tartar!) and his puppy-like behavior tell us he could be younger than that. We listed him HERE as 18 months old just to be on the safe side, but it's entirely possible that his birthday is closer to St. Patrick's Day 2022. Whatever his age, Eli apparently didn't have good care in his previous life, but we are working to put on some healthy weight. He has been vaccinated and neutered and microchipped, so he is ready for adoption. He is currently in a foster home with a wide variety of fowl -- chickens, ducks, geese, and more. Eli has taken a special liking to an injured duck name Sparkles - he takes her his toys and naps next to her in her bed (a kiddie pool filled with straw, inside the house). He seems to have made it his personal mission to protect her and make her happy. Eli enjoys running in the pasture and doing a perimeter check, but he ALSO enjoys cuddling in the house with his people. If you are looking for a snuggle buddy who can be trusted around your backyard flock of chickens (or the ducks in your pond), maybe Eli is exactly the dog you need in your life.
