Anatolian Shepherd / Mixed (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Large Interested in adopting?
Chico was surrendered to us by his family when they lost the lease on their farm. They had bought Chico from a breeder who said he is Anatolian Shepherd mixed with Central Asian Shepherd. Our website doesn't include Central Asian Shepherd as one of the breeds we can choose, probably because the breed is not very common in the USA. Chico was raised with Boer goats, and since moving to Windsong Ranch, he has been guarding Nigerian Dwarf goats. Chico has a bit of an alpha personality with other dogs but is a real sweetheart with people. He can be a bit dog-selective, so if you have other working LGDs, we will need to have a meet & greet to see if Chico approves. Here, we have tried him with a few different dogs, and he does best with one of our feral Great Pyrenees. I think that's because the Pyr also has a bit of an alpha personality, so the two dogs respect each other. I ALSO think it helps that the feral Pyr has zero interest in getting attention from the humans here, so that means Chico can get all the love when we're in his pasture, and he just soaks that up. Chico has never been exposed to chickens or other livestock. Just goats. But he's a solid LGD for goats. If Chico sounds like a good match for you, please complete the application on our website.
