Charlie Brown is one of 18 dogs rescued from a single property in central Oklahoma. An older man had one Great Pyrenees to guard his goats, and he didn't get her spayed, so the inevitable result was that a neighbor's dog bred her. Pyrenees tend to have 8-12 puppies in each litter, so even if the owner can sell or give away a few puppies, it only takes a couple of litters for things to get out of control. Especially when you don't spay/neuter any of the puppies and they grow up and breed. Neighbors and local rescuers tried helping, but it was only when the number of dogs got to be more than he could afford to feed that the owner agreed to let them take some of the dogs into rescue. With so many dogs needing help all at once, it was a team effort, with rescues from Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas stepping up to help. Bluebonnet took in three dogs, with Charlie Brown being the youngest of our group.

We think Charlie was probably about 8 months old when we took him in, so we've given him an estimated birthday of 1/1/2025. Given the situation that he came from, we can't be sure of his age OR of his family tree. We know from photos that most of the dogs from this case look like Great Pyrenees or Pyr/Anatolian Shepherd mixes, so it seems like a safe bet that Charlie Brown is some combination of those two breeds, and yet he is smaller than he should be, so we don't know if that's just a case of bad breeding combined with malnutrition of his mom during pregnancy AND of Charlie after he was born? I would like to do a DNA test on Charlie to see what it might say.

No matter what his family tree looks like, Charlie is a very sweet boy who is very friendly to people AND gets along well with all types of dogs. He is being fostered with our friends Judy & Mike, who are Bark Busters trainers, so he is learning basic skills, including walking on a leash.

If Charlie Brown looks like the perfect addition to your life, please complete the application here.
