Albus needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start?
Albus has lived with us at Windsong Ranch since March of 2016, and he has made so much progress in terms of dealing with his separation anxiety. We have learned to help him cope with anxiety about loud noises as well. Through his first years with us, we received many applications from people interested in adopting Albus, but most people really didn't pay much attention to his adoption bio (below), and when we talked to them about his anxieties, they always decided he was not the right dog for them. In some cases, it was clear the applicants were not serious to start, because they were absolutely not the right match for Albus. Maybe they had no other dogs when Albus's bio clearly states that he must go to a home with at least one other big, confident Great Pyrenees. Maybe they worked long hours and expected Albus to stay in a crate all day. A few even applied to adopt him as an LGD, when there is NOTHING in his bio to indicate that he would be an appropriate choice for that. In addition to his anxiety issues, Albus has developed some typical age-related health issues that require daily medication to keep him feeling good. So all things considered, we decided that Albus should live out his retirement with us, where he has lived happily for more than years.
If you would like to support Albus's care, we would be glad to have your sponsorship donations. Click on the links under his photo to read more about sponsorship and to set up a one-time or recurring donation. Thank you!
Original Adoption Bio
Albus is a handsome Great Pyrenees male who was picked up as a stray by some nice people who took him into their home. Albus is a great dog -- he is good with other dogs, cats, and children. At a recent adoption event, he was friendly with everyone and would let anyone come up and pet and love on him. He is good on a leash, sits on command, and doesn't bark as much as some Pyrenees. Albus is fully housetrained, is gentle, calm, and easygoing.
BUT, Albus has one major issue that MUST be considered by any potential adopter. He has major separation anxiety, and also has anxiety during storms (regardless of whether WE hear thunder, rainstorms upset Albus). Fireworks and gunfire terrify him. Albus must be in a home where one of his humans is home most of the time and where he has at least one other Great Pyrenees (preferably one as large as he is) to keep him company. His new home MUST have a secure 6' (or taller) fence, preferably wrought iron or chain link so he has a view of the world around him. As we said, Albus is a truly wonderful dog, and in the right setting (like his current foster home at Windsong Ranch), Albus is a very easy dog to manage.
If you have another big Pyr and are retired or work from home, and if you have a nice big yard with great fencing, please consider Albus as your new companion. He is worth the extra attention he needs during times of stress.
